Weinert Comes Home Second At Big Diamond |
|
FORESTVILLE, PA - There were mixed emotions in the Michael Weinert Racing camp Friday night at Big Diamond Raceway.
Weinert drove the race of his burgeoning career to finish second in the 25-lap 358-Modified main, but came ever-so-close to a breakthrough victory, when a late caution allowed veteran Ryan Godown to pass by on the final lap.
Weinert took the lead after an extended battle with Dan Hineline on lap 16, survived a lap-18 restart and appeared poised for his first career win with less than a dozen career 358-Mod starts.
However, a slowing car drew the caution on lap 24, erasing a lead of more than 10 car-lengths. On the restart, Godown was able to slip inside and take the win with Weinert a close second.
While missing victory, Weinert and crew chief Jake Kaylor had the No. 18 Bicknell fast and look forward to success in the season's final stretch.
Weinert and the Plant Food Company team will be back on track Friday at Big D. |
